Codes & Conventions
When creating or analysing Media products, we must understand that there is rich history from which these products are created and understood. Over time, audiences have held and built expectations around the types of products they consume and what products should include in order to be engaging and successful.
Codes and Conventions are specific 'rules' that act as a guideline for the way the media products are created.

Scriptwriting
Scriptwriting happens in the pre-production phase. A script is a written documents that includes: scene titles, dialogue from the characters and description of the action.

StoryBoarding
Storyboarding is a visual reference for what needs to be filmed during production. The storyboard is created after the script and during the pre-production phase.
Just like a script, storyboard have codes and conventions to follow. The first video here is a great introduction to how a storyboard should look and how to represent character movement and camera movement visually. Storyboards are used in the industry for movies, TV shows and even commercials. |

Production Roles
Producer
The Producer oversees the film production. They plan and coordinate various aspects of the production including coordination writing, directing, and editing. The producer also supervises the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of filmmaking.

Sound Production
Sound Production encompasses a large range of things. This includes designing the sound of a film, sound recording, foley and sound editing.

The Director
A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualises the screenplay (or script) while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and the creative aspects of filmmaking.

Production Design
A Production Designer is responsible for the overall visual look of a production. They work with the director, cinematographer, and producer to select the setting and style to visually tell the story.

The Cinematographer
The Cinematographer or Director of Photographer is in charge of the camera and lighting on a production. They are responsible for the artistic and technical decisions related to the image. They work in conjunction with the director to realise their vision.

The Editor
The film editor works the raw footage, selection show and combining them into sequences in order to a create a finished motion picture.
